The Charles MacPherson Academy has a proprietary textbook, which each student of the school receives upon the first day of class. It has been written by Charles MacPherson and reviewed by all of the individual teachers.
Our textbook is over 600 pages in length and has over 1,000 colour illustrations. We have a wonderful artist who has been working with us for over 4 years drawing all of these images.
In both the video and the PDF sample you can see that our textbook focuses on the process behind a skill. We believe that understanding process is the key to completing tasks correctly on a consistent basis. At the Academy instructors don’t just state how something should be, but rather spend time with each student explaining the “why” and “how” behind the process that leads to a desired result. The outcome is students who have a greater sense of confidence in themselves upon graduation.
The other focus of the textbook is on skills. The curriculum and textbook have been developed so that students walk away armed with the skills they will require to work effectively in a luxury home. Whether the lesson be in table setting, wine and champagne, butling and valet skills, housekeeping, laundry and household management forms like petty cash, the objective is always the same: that students be taught practical skills that they can use to run and operate a home, and to manage and train staff. The philosophy stems from a simple question. How is it possible to manage staff if you have no understanding of the skills they require to do their jobs effectively?
Once viewed, the textbook becomes an essential reference tool for not only household managers, but also the household in general. The Charles MacPherson Academy is the only school in the world with such a specific and skills-focused textbook. Our textbook covers in-depth all of the subjects that we teach. The video shows some examples of the textbook, and below as a sample section of the textbook in PDF format available for download.
