Position Overview:

A versatile, experienced Housekeeper is a key element in a team of service professionals, providing very personal, detailed and seamless service to the Principals and guests in a formal Forest Hill home.  The role requires acute attention to detail to maintain exceptional standards of service, and the ability to anticipate Principal’s and guest’s needs both from a housekeeping, and food and beverage service aspect.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the House Manager, the Housekeeper works in a team with other housekeeping staff responsible for housekeeping, laundry, deep cleaning and related duties, ensuring the high standards of the formal home are maintained
  • This is primarily a hands-on role; 70% hands-on housekeeping and laundry; 30% food and beverage and administrative
  • A versatile housekeeper; candidate must be capable of assisting as needed in any role
  • Maintain knowledge of social etiquette and formal service
  • Receive and announce guests, greet and attend to household guests
  • Strong administrative skills and knowledge
  • Update and maintain household standards and service manuals
  • Ability to organize projects, see the bigger picture in the residence
  • Liaise with the employer’s private office staff as required
  • Provide valet service; packing/unpacking and preparation for travelling
  • Provide personal care to Principals and guests
  • Assist with social events at the home
  • Provide breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner service; including formal table setting, food and beverage service
  • Perform other services as requested, such as cooking and preparing meals on the Chef’s day off; mix and serve cocktails, wine, and other beverages
  • Care and maintenance of fine china, crystal and silver
  • Answer phone and deliver messages
  • Maintain a knowledge of the security systems
  • Travel and work in Muskoka alternating 2 weeks at a time with other staff members during the summer months

 

Applicant Qualities:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in private household service and directly related prior experience, or related hospitality industry experience
  • Flexibility required with regards to scheduling in response to the needs of the family who are in residence 5-6 months of the year; longer work hours when the family is in residence is balanced by shorter hours when the family is away
  • Strong management skills, but also able to be hands-on
  • This is a live-out position
  • Experienced with formal and semi-formal beverage and table service
  • Cooking experience an asset
  • Physically able to walk, climb stairs and stand for extended periods; able to lift 30- 50 lbs
  • Driven, energetic, has stamina to get through the longer days
  • Minimum high school diploma; a college diploma in hospitality or related field an asset
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
