Position Overview:


Hands-on House Manager required for executive style residences located in Toronto and Muskoka. The House Manager will primarily be responsible for overseeing the operations of the family’s Toronto property, with support to the Muskoka property seasonally, as well as for specific occasions during the off-season.


The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational skills, strong housekeeping knowledge, and be comfortable in the kitchen. They should have top-notch service skills and have a true eye for detail.


In the city, the candidate will work with existing house staff on the daily operations of the home to maintain the high standards of the residence. The house manager should thrive in a busy environment with a dynamic list of responsibilities, including:


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and contribute to the housekeeping of the home, including interior maintenance, laundry, and exterior upkeep
  • Organize and maintain closets, cupboard, and other storage spaces
  • Manage inventory of household pantries and supplies
  • Food preparation (basic prep through to preparing casual meals)
  • Food and beverage service (casual and formal)
  • Manage and update household manuals, procedure lists, event/function records
  • Schedule and manage trades and service providers for home maintenance, repair/renovation work
  • Drive the principals occasionally
  • Manage household vehicles, including daily upkeep and maintenance
  • Answer telephone, take messages, greet visitors and guests
  • Run errands and other duties as required


The Muskoka property entails daily food and beverage service when the principals are in residence and when entertaining guests at their property. The house manager is responsible for ensuring that the standards in the city are mirrored in Muskoka.


It is a recreational waterfront property with multiple buildings, therefore the candidate should enjoy working and being outdoors. The candidate will lead a small team to support the arrival and departure of guests, turnover and detailing of guest quarters, food and beverage service, daily opening and close-down of the property and facilities.

Applicant Qualities:

 Previous experience working in a private residence

  • Respectful of the procedures and processes established in the home and willingness to take direction
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize a robust task list
  • Solid housekeeping and laundry skills; including experience working with fine finishes, furnishings and clothing
  • Intermediate level of comfort working in a kitchen (essentially a great home-cook)
  • Flexibility with schedule and working hours
  • Service-oriented with excellent communication skills
  • Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and ability to ensure projects are completed from start to finish in a timely manner
  • Strong computer and technology skills in a Mac environment is an asset
  • Experience with productivity tools (i.e.Word and Excel) to create lists, reports and other documents
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Polished professional presentation
  • Must exercise complete discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Must be able to live in if required
  • Must be willing and able to reside at the Muskoka property on a seasonal basis
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; having own vehicle an asset
  • Boating licence an asset
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
