An employer once came to me to announce that he and his family had just completed construction on a 40,000 square foot home. In the 4000 square foot space that the family was to move from, they employed a nanny/housekeeper. The world of substantial wealth and high-maintenance properties would be new for them and this client was suddenly overwhelmed. “Please Help!” he pleaded.
Hiring more service staff does not necessarily solve the problems.
When an employer utters these words, it’s time to hire a trained or experienced Household Manager or Estate Manager. Some may see this as the obvious thing to do, but many are not aware that such help is available!Most are aware of Professional Butlers and link them with English aristocracy. They often resist the snobbery associated with employing one. Commendable. But employing a butler or other management personnel is perfectly acceptable – and necessary for a family living in a large home or estate with many responsibilities.
Household Managers and Estate Managers will be of invaluable assistance in organizing staff and creating and implementing management and service delivery systems. A good manager will know how many it will take to organize a smooth-running and comfortable home; and this will be done in a style completely agreeable to the family.
When an employer begins to feel the stress of a difficult day and cannot resolve it even with valuable and essential private time at home, it generally means the time has arrived to consider hiring a right-hand-person!
So, if the employer feels overwhelmed with household, social responsibilities with little time to ‘recharge the batteries’, or if he or she just wants to improve his or her quality of life, it’s time to hire a Personal Service Professional. Living begins at home. Make it a place of peace and comfort.
